Travel Tips for Yunnan

Best Time to Visit

March-May (spring flowers) and September-November (clear skies, mild weather). Xishuangbanna is warm year-round. Avoid Chinese holidays. The Water Splashing Festival (mid-April) is a must-see.

Altitude Warning

Lijiang (2,400m) and Shangri-La (3,300m) are high altitude. Spend 1-2 days in Kunming (1,900m) first. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and consider altitude medication. Most travelers adjust fine.

Getting There

Fly into Kunming Changshui Airport (KMG) -- a major hub with 144-hour transit visa. Internal flights connect to Lijiang, Dali, and Xishuangbanna. High-speed rail also available.

All Ages Welcome

Yunnan's diverse altitudes mean options for every fitness level. Kunming and Dali are flat and easy. Lijiang and Shangri-La require moderate fitness.
