Best Time to Visit

April-October is peak season. September-October offers the clearest skies for Zhangjiajie photography. Summer (July-August) is hot but misty mountains create the iconic "Avatar" atmosphere. Avoid Chinese holidays (May 1-5, Oct 1-7).

What to Pack

Comfortable hiking shoes (even for non-hikers -- the boardwalks are flat). Rain jacket year-round. Sunscreen and hat. Cash for small vendors (Alipay/WeChat Pay accepted everywhere).

Getting There

Fly into Changsha Huanghua Airport (CSX) or Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport (DYG). 144-hour transit visa available at both airports for eligible nationalities.

Hunan is family-friendly and senior-accessible. Zhangjiajie has elevators, cable cars, and flat boardwalks. Changsha's flat city center is easy to navigate.
