Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: The Real-Life Avatar Mountains
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: The Real-Life Avatar Mountains
Why Visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is where the floating mountains from Avatar seem real — because they literally inspired them. The park's 3,000+ quartz-sandstone pillars, rising 200-1,080 meters from subtropical forests, are a geological wonder found nowhere else on earth. The park is vast: four main areas connected by shuttle buses, cable cars and the famous Bailong Elevator (the world's tallest outdoor elevator, climbing 335m through a cliff face). A properly planned visit of 2-3 days lets you experience sunrise over Tianzi Mountain's sea of peaks, hike the Golden Whip Stream valley.
