Stone Forest: 270 Million Years of Karst Erosion in Kunming
Stone Forest: 270 Million Years of Karst Erosion in Kunming
Why Visit Stone Forest
The Stone Forest (Shilin) is one of Yunnan's most extraordinary geological wonders — a 350-square-kilometer forest of limestone pillars that rise from the earth like petrified trees. Some reach 30 meters high. The formations are the result of 270 million years of geological activity, when this area was underwater. The stone forest was a setting for the 1980s film 'Ashima' — the story of a beautiful Sani girl.
