Why Visit Mangshan National Forest
Mangshan is the best-preserved subtropical rainforest in China, often called the 'Western Amazon' by Chinese naturalists. This 20,000-hectare reserve in southern Hunan protects a dense canopy of evergreen broadleaf forest, home to clouded leopards (rarely seen), 265 species of birds, and the world's most diverse collection of bamboo species.
