Langshan Mountain: UNESCO Red Cliffs of Southern Hunan
Langshan Mountain: UNESCO Red Cliffs of Southern Hunan
Why Visit Langshan Mountain
Langshan Mountain is one of Hunan's best-kept secrets — a UNESCO Danxia landform of dramatic red sandstone peaks, winding rivers and natural arches in the southwest of the province. It's far less crowded than Zhangjiajie but equally spectacular in its own way. The red cliffs here have been shaped by erosion into forms that Hunan locals named after familiar objects: Camel Peak, Chili Peak, Candle Peak. A bamboo raft ride on the Fuyi River between towering red cliffs is one of the most peaceful experiences in Hunan.
Highlights You Cannot Miss
Camel Peak (Tuofeng)
The iconic red sandstone peak shaped like a kneeling camel. The best view is from the opposite ridge at sunset.
Lajiao Peak
'Chili Peak,' named for its resemblance to Hunan's favorite ingredient. A narrow stairway climbs to the top.
Fuyi River
A meandering river through the red cliffs. Bamboo raft rides offer the most relaxing way to see the landscape.
