Furong Ancient Town: The Cliff-Side Waterfall Village of Hunan
Furong Ancient Town: The Cliff-Side Waterfall Village of Hunan
Why Visit Furong Ancient Town
Furong is called the 'Waterfall Village on a Cliff' and the name is literal: the entire old town is built on a cliff face, with a 60-meter-high waterfall cascading through its center. Originally named 'Wangcun' (King's Village), it was renamed Furong after a famous Chinese film. The Tujia ethnic minority have lived here for 2,000 years, building their characteristic stilted wooden houses along the cliff edges. At night, the waterfall is lit with colorful lights, creating a scene that feels almost magical. Some guesthouses offer rooms where you can hear the waterfall from your bed.
