Fenghuang Ancient Town: Overnight Guide for Photography Lovers

Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town in western Hunan is one of China's most photographed destinations. Over 100 Ming and Qing Dynasty stilt houses line the Tuojiang River, their wooden pillars rising directly from the water. At night, red lanterns illuminate the facades, creating reflections that photographers dream of.

Best Photo Locations

Hong Bridge at Dawn (5:30-6:30 AM) — The iconic covered bridge seen from the east bank, before morning mist lifts off the river. Best October-March.

North Gate Tower (7:00-8:00 PM) — Classic stilt house panorama. Use tripod: ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/15 sec.

South Bank Evening Reflection (8:30-9:30 PM) — Perfect mirror reflections of the illuminated town. Polarizing filter recommended.

East Gate Detail (10:00 AM) — Qing Dynasty stilt houses with carved wooden window screens and original tiled roofs.
