Danxia Mountain: Nature's Rainbow in Northern Guangdong
Danxia Mountain: Nature's Rainbow in Northern Guangdong
Why Visit Danxia Mountain
Danxia Mountain is where the term 'Danxia landform' was born — a UNESCO-recognized geological formation of red conglomerate and sandstone shaped by millions of years of erosion. The result is a landscape of striking red pillars, natural arches, cave temples and forested peaks that look almost otherworldly. Located in Shaoguan, about 50 minutes from Guangzhou by high-speed rail, this geopark offers hiking trails for all levels. The classic route takes you past Yangyuan Stone (the iconic pillar), through the narrow crevice of Yin Shi Yan, and up to Zhanglao Peak for a panoramic finale.
Highlights You Cannot Miss
Yangyuan Stone
The most famous formation: a massive red pillar that inspired Danxia's global recognition as a unique landform type.
Zhanglao Peak Sunrise
The highest viewpoint at 618m, offering panoramic views of the sea of red peaks emerging from morning mist.
Yin Shi Yan (Sunset View)
A natural arch and cave complex where the setting sun paints the red cliffs in fiery orange.
