Chen Clan Academy: Guangzhou's Masterpiece of Lingnan Architecture
Why Visit Chen Clan Academy
Chen Clan Academy (Chen Jia Ci) is one of Guangzhou's finest architectural treasures — a magnificent 19th-century complex built by the Chen family clan as a temple and academy. Every surface is adorned with the finest Lingnan craftsmanship: woodcarvings so detailed they seem alive, brick carvings telling stories from Chinese opera, and pottery sculptures lining the ridge of every roof. Today it houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, with over 20,000 artifacts spanning ivory carving, jade, embroidery and ceramics. It's a showcase of everything that makes Cantonese craftsmanship exceptional.
